“One can only appreciate Impression Sanjie Liu here. It is worth flying from any corner in the world to enjoy it.” - Hashi Verma. Asia Pacific Director,World Tourism Organization.
Located in Yangshuo County, Guilin, Guangxi, China, curated by director Yimou Zhang, Chaoge Wang, Yue Fan and producer Shuaiyuan Mei, Impression Sanjie Liu is the first large-scale landscape performance in China. Its stage is set on the Li River, covers two kilometers’ water area and twelve peaks headed by Shutong Mountain.
The performance is based on the legend of Guangxi song master Sanjie Liu, but not limited to her story. By using the image of traditional Chinese painting and rhythms of local songs, Impression Sanjie Liu shows the living situation, the folk customs, and especially the landscapes around Li River.
There is no continuous narrative line or accurate translation of the lyrics in the show. By using the story of Sanjie Liu as introduction, landscape and folk songs as visual methods, Impression Sanjie Liu implies the cultural essence of ethnic minorities such as Zhuang, Yao, Miao, Dong, and the living scenes around the Li River.
